1st International Conference of the Global Doctors' Hippocratic Institute on "Hippocrates unites the five Continents"

Before 2,600 years, Hippocrates arrived in Attica, by the invitation of Pericles, to face the terrible plague of Athens. Careful scientific observation led the great father of Medicine to identify the contagious factors of the historical epidemic, to describe the characteristics and meaning of the epidemic, but also of the pandemic, first in the history of the world, and to limit it.

Careful scientific observation led the great father of Medicine to identify the contagious factors of the historical epidemic, to describe the characteristics and meaning of the epidemic, but also of the pandemic, first in the history of the world, and to limit it. This comparative knowledge of antiquity and today, through the most valid scientific data, he considered the obligation of the World Hippocratic Institute of Physicians to share with scientists from all over the world, as a message of optimism for the victory against the pandemic virus, SARS-CoV-2, through the dissemination of Hippocratic values ​​and the promotion of Hippocrates' philosophy in the international medical world.

The above was emphasized at the beginning of his speech at the  organized by the Global Doctors’ Hippocratic Institute on "Hippocrates unites the five continents", the governor of Attica George Patoulis, president of GDHI and Athens Medical Association.

The Conference, was held with the participation of 30 distinguished scientists from 15 countries and attended by scientists from Greece and expatriate Hellenism, presented data on the treatment of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the value of Hippocratic Medical Science, in combination with Ancient Medicine of other countries.

The works started with the epidemic of Ancient Athens, and its response by Hippocrates, to the response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the usefulness of vaccines, and the impact of the current health crisis on the mental health of the world's citizens.

The next sessions of the Conference presented the countries that developed Medicine in antiquity and the influences they received from Hippocrates, the later influence of Hippocratic Medicine and its evolution to the modern science that is practiced today.

The conference ended with the analysis of the Oath of Hippocrates.

According to the organizers, this event inaugurated, on the initiative of the Global Doctors’ Hippocratic Institute, the holding of global forums for the exchange ideas and scientific thoughts on the importance of Hippocratic medicine, which laid the foundations for the treatment with a psychosomatic, holistic approach, and the treatment of the patient individually, but also in relation to the natural environment and Public Health.

"This important scientific event proved that the cooperation of Greek and foreign doctors everywhere is the cornerstone for the successful dissemination of the spirit of Hippocrates and the preservation of the Oath," said Mr. Patoulis, emphasizing that with this congress Hippocrates united the five Continents in a difficult time for humanity.

The 1st Global Congress of the Global Doctors’ Hippocratic Institute was held under the auspices of Athens Medical Association, the Region of Attica, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - General Secretariat of Public Diplomacy & Greeks Abroad. It was co-organized with the International Hippocratic Foundation of Kos and the Medical School of the University of Thessaly, in collaboration with fifteen medical associations, including the Greek Diaspora in New York, Australia, North America and Cyprus. The President of the Organizing Committee of the Congress was Antonis Polydorou, and member was the First Vice President of Athens Medical Association, Fotis Patsourakos, and the Chairman of the Scientific Committee was Konstantinos Kouskoukis.

It is noted that the purposes of the Global Doctors’ Hippocratic Institute include the creation of Hippocratic Medical Philosophy Training Programs, the education and training of physicians and medical students from around the world in Hippocratic Medicine, as well as the interconnection of medical schools with Philosophy and Ethics.
