ΒΙΟ
Dr. Antonios Polydorou is a graduate from the Medical School of the Kapodistrian University of Athens. He specialized in cardiology at the University Hospital Cardiology Clinic of the Hippocratic Hospital of Athens. In 1978, he was awarded a PhD from the University of Athens and until 1985 he trained in hemodynamic and invasive cardiology at Guy's Hospital in London, in the intravascular treatment of carotid arteries and peripheral vessels at Nancy Clinic in France, at Scripps Clinic in San Diego and Em of the United States of America. In 1985, he worked at the cardiology clinic of the NIMITS Hospital in Athens, where together with his associates they started the first coronary artery angioplasty surgeries.
In 1990, he was appointed director of hemodynamic and invasive cardiology at the General Hospital of Nikaia, Piraeus and then took over the management of the respective department at the General Hospital of Evangelismos in Athens, until he retired.
In June 2001, he successfully performed the first operations in the world of coronary artery bypass grafting at the University Hospital of Iasi, Romania, where he was named Honorary Professor of Cardiology at the Medical School there. During his career, he received many honors and developed social and cultural work. He held -for a number of years- the position of Vice President of the Board at the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center.
