During the official two-day visit to Cyprus, the Attica Regional Governor and President of Global Doctors’ Hippocratic Institute and Athens Medical Association G. Patoulis, went to visited the Medical School of the European University of Cyprus, where the bust of Hippocrates was placed in the context of a special ceremony, donated by Global Doctors’ Hippocratic, following a relevant initiative of Mr. Patoulis.

At the same time, a Plane tree was planted in the courtyard of the Medical School, in a symbolic gesture, as according to the legend, Hippocrates was teaching his students in Kos Island, under a plane tree.

It is an initiative of the Global Doctors’ Hippocratic Institute and its President G. Patoulis, which began with the first installation of the bust of Hippocrates at the Medical School of Larissa, where Hippocrates taught and died and will be held in other 35 Medical Schools around the world.

The ceremony took place in the presence of the Minister of Health M. Michael Hadjipantela, Aristotle Pavlidis, President of the International Hippocratic Foundation of Kos and former Minister, the Rector of the European University of Cyprus A. Efstathiou, the President of the Council of European University of Cyprus, X. Xatzikyprianou, General Secretary of the Global Doctors’ Hippocratic Institute A. Polydorou, Mrs. E. Johnson, Dean of the Medical School, professors and students of the Medical School.

Welcoming the ceremony in a speech held at the Amphitheater of University, Mr. Patoulis mentioned, among other:

"The Global Doctors’ Hippocratic Institute in collaboration with the Attica Region has undertaken the launch of a series of actions and initiatives that serve the ideal of the revival and dissemination of Hippocratic Thought and Ethics around the world, with the aim of spreading Hippocratic Thought through around the world. This initiative is part of the spirit of the dynamic international establishment of the Hippocratic Day of Thought, which from the beginning was the goal of the Global Doctor’s Hippocratic Institute and which is supported by Athens Medical Association in collaboration with the Attica Region, in order to establish, in Greece and abroad, an official Day of awareness and information on Hippocratic thought, in hospitals, health structures, Medical Schools as well in school education.

In this context, the Global Doctors’ Hippocratic Institute in a document to the United Nations requested that September 4 be established as the "Memorial Day of Hippocrates", in order to enlighten the minds of doctors and public opinion of the world on our ancient and valuable knowledge in medical science, and its Greek paternity.

Especially now that the whole planet is experiencing a major health crisis, Hippocratic Thought is more relevant than ever.

We therefore deeply believe that it is a crucial moment to mobilize creatively the scientific top level of Greek doctors in every corner of the earth around the world in order to promote with high scientific value, the value of the Hippocratic spirit ".
